   Festival history

The Viotti Festival is the Camerata Ducale Orchestra concerts season which since 1998 is one of the most interesting performing ensembles among both the national and international scene. The Festival is the brainchild of the founders of the Camerata Ducale Association, moved by the aim of flourishing again the compositions of Gio-vanni Battista Viotti and other famous composers who lived at the turn of the Eight-eenth and Nineteenth Centuries. The project is ambitious, but with the support of the City of Vercelli the idea takes shape and is accomplished with the event “L’Arco In-cantato”.

In its early years, the concerts schedule offers four events with free admission in the most important sites of the Piedmontaise city. It is with the "Celebrazioni Viottiane” concert in 2005 that the season gets its first great mass-media success thanks to two memorable performances of the violinists Uto Ughi and Salvatore Accardo. The positive outcome of these concerts cheers up the events management in investing more resources both in expanding the concerts schedule and inviting other great classical music personalities to join the Camerata Ducale Orchestra on stage. In 2007, the event is for the first time presented as the “Viotti Festival”, a name that combines its international character with the author that inspired the project. Two years later, the Festival lands in the U.S. with a location in Florida.

Today the festival, at its XXII season, can boast of having on its stage performers as Salvatore Accardo, Gilles Apap, Arpeggione Kammerorchester, Andrea Bacchetti, Le-tizia Belmondo, Renato Bruson, Bruno Canino, Sa Chen, Pietro De Maria, Daniela Dessì, Isabelle Faust, Richard Galliano, Cecilia Gasdia, Igudesman & Joo, Dimitri Il-larionov, Alexander Lonquich, Louis Lortie, Andrea Lucchesini, Mischa Maisky, Shlo-mo Mintz, Igor Oistrakh, Ruggiero Ricci, Katia Ricciarelli, Vladimir Spivakov, Uto Ughi, Radovan Vlatkovich, Jang Wang, Enrico Pace, Giuliano Carmignola, Avi Avital, Angela Hewitt, Viktoria Mullova, Enrico Dindo and Anna Kravtchenko.
